The Academy of Palyul Tarthang White Lotus Wisdom and Enlightenment

The Academy of Palyul Tarthang White Lotus Wisdom and Enlightenment,  established officially on July 13, 2006 by Jangling Rinpoche, the Khanpo of Tarthang in Qinghai, is led by His Holiness Orgyen Garwang Nyima Rinpoche, the 3rd Lhatrul Rinpoche and jointly run by Lao Soi Nam and together with other Buddhists.

The academy is a boarding school with over 120 boarding student monks and a faculty and administrative staff team of 13 since establishment. It mainly offers Buddhism courses in Tibetan culture along with Chinese, English and other common subject courses.

The academy has 6 grades, with examinations for qualifying for an upper grade. Ngondro (Preliminary Practice) is offered starting in Grade 4, and Tsalung (Yoga Practice of Channel and Vital Energy) in Grade 5 and Dzogchen (Practice of Great Perfection) in Grade 6, which are all subjects in Palyul’s Inheritance. Upon completion of 6 years of courses and satisfactory examinations, student monks are qualified to start their monkhood and enter The Tarthang Ngagyur Nyingma Institute to continue their advanced studies. The annual fixed operation cost of the academy is currently at around RMB 500,000 to 600,000 as everything including tuitions, boarding, meals, clothes and textbooks are offered completely free of charge by the academy.

The sages often pointed out that Buddhist doctrines constitute preaching and practicing, and only preaching together with practicing will help continuously promote Buddhism in the world. And it relies on all the monks for preaching and practicing. Therefore, training student monks to Sangharama is critical to the continuation of Buddhism and there is no better way than this to do good deeds.
